But, you know, one thing about it is that we began to take the stuff kind of serious because we found out that this is kind of cool.

And then, you know, things just begin to transpire into better things and we began to book gigs on TV shows and guest spots, you know one-liners here and there and a couple lines in a TV show here and there.

From there we got involved with TV, commercials, we moved to California. So they thought it would be great to get us involved and channel those energies into something a little bit more positive. Lemme just say it: we were badass kids who needed some direction. We all went to performing arts school because my parents wanted my brothers and I to get involved with performing arts because we had a lot of energy.

But no, we didn't get into it to score with chicks, what it was honestly is that we just wanted to get involved with the movie and TV business based on performing arts school. We didn't get involved to get chicks, but actually, you know, it wasn't a bad move. The problem is, is that person the right one? Is she hangin' out with you for the right reasons or the wrong reasons? When you're exposed or labeled as that sex symbol, you always have that in the back of your mind, "Is this girl hangin' out with me for the right reasons or the wrong reasons?" IGNFF: That said, I heard a rumor, actually read it on the Internet, so you know how that is, that you and your brothers initially got into acting so you could score with the ladies.

That's one of those things, you don't have a hard time gettin' a date. 's still easy to get dates, you know, when people look at you as a sex symbol. I just try to stay grounded with it all and don't let it go to my head. But for me, I'm just an ordinary kind of guy. I think that's just something that people sort of put on you when you get the response that you get from women.

So to have it is cool, but I don't want to feel really weird when it comes to the sex symbol, because I don't know how to be the ideal sex symbol. I have women who come out and support my movies and that is a huge demographic for me, which is great because some actors don't have a female base at all. Because now I have a whole different demographic when it comes to the audiences. It's actually kind of cool that women have taken to me.

It's interesting, because I've never seen myself as a sex symbol.

IGN FILMFORCE: How do you deal with the whole sex symbol thing? LARENZ TATE: Ahh, you should know, you're a sex symbol over here in the Bay Area. He looks more the part of an up-n-coming R&B crooner than that of a hungry young actor who is able to flit between the gritty street attitudes of characters like Anthony Curtis in Dead Presidents or his latest incarnation as Demetrius Hicks in A Man Apart and the gentle, passionate characters he's portrayed like Darius Lovehall in Love Jones. A day later, lounging in the swank Clift Hotel in downtown San Francisco, Tate is calm, cool, and collected. Tate's sex symbol status becomes all to apparent when at a promotional screening of his latest film, A Man Apart, during the post-screening Q&A the bulk of the questions asked of Tate came from female viewers and everyone of them ended their query with "Could I get a picture with you?" or "Will you hug my cousin, she's sitting over there and you're her favorite actor." Tate graciously waited after the session and took pictures and hugged each and every woman that stepped forward for the privilege. On the flipside, however, are his legion of female fans who have religiously swooned over his performances in films like Love Jones. Sure, his maniacal turn as the street gangsta O-Dog in Menace II Society has endured him to wannabe thugs and hoodlums the world over, not to mention the fact that it gave Tate a certain amount of street cred within the ultra sub-genre of South Central Los Angeles-based gangsta films dominated by hip-hop soundtracks.
